The Kobujutsu, Iaijutsu and Aikijujutsu style we practice is Dentokan under the instruction of Grandmaster Neil Malpas.

Karate brings so much more than fitness and exercise.

Karate focuses on developing confidence, leadership, goal setting, pride in success, good values and is a wonderful and fun way to develop co-ordination, awareness and respect for self, others and the environment.

We are part of The Dentokan

Our Senior Instructor, Penny Cheketri, is country head for The Dentokan.

We offer:

Dentokan Kobujutsu (Traditional Martial Arts Weapons)

Dentokan Iaijutsu

(Katana/sword)

Dentokan Aikijujutsu

(Traditional Martial Art involving throws, armlocks, wristlocks)

Dentokan Okinawa Kan Goju Ryu

Students are encouraged to set goals and are offered opportunities to attain these through regular karate gradings and competing in tournaments.

The karate style we practice is Okinawa Kan Goju Ryu under the guidance of Grandmaster Ki'ichi Nakamoto and the Grandmaster of Dentokan Hanshi Neil Malpas

Goju Ryu Karate is one of the four original styles of Karate, and was founded by Chojun Miyagi Sensei (1888-1953). Grand-Master Miyagi had spent many years in China studying Chinese Martial Arts before returning to Okinawa to formulate what is now known as Okinawa Goju Ryu Karatedo.

The literal translation of the Japanese term Goju Ryu is "Hard/Soft" - Go meaning “Hard” and Ju meaning “Soft”. Ryu means “School”, thus Goju Ryu is the Hard/Soft School of Karate.

Our Grandmaster, Hanshi Kiichi Nakamoto, is head of Goju-Ryu Okinawa Kan Karate. He is one of the first Okinawan teacher's to be recognized as a 10th Degree Karate Master by the Japanese Government.

Hanshi Kiichi Nakamoto he is a 10th Degree Grandmaster of Ryukyu Kobujutsu (Weaponry),

a 10th Degree

Grandmaster of Goju Ryu Karate, and was one of the last formal students of Chojun Miyagi, the founder of Goju Ryu Karate.
